Ruth Bader Ginsburg Officiates Wedding for Close Friends

On August 30, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg officiated a wedding for two of her friends, Barb Solish and Danny Kazin.

For the unfamiliar, Ginsburg has been an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since she was nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1993. She has served since August 10, 1993, becoming only the second of four female justices to join the Court. Sandra Day O’Connor came first, and Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan followed after RBG.

O’Connor retired in 2006, leaving Ginsburg as the only female justice on the Court until Sotomayor joined in 2009.

And now, apparently, she has a side hustle officiating weddings.

RBG Officiates Wedding for Close Friends

It’s been a long time since anyone has seen Ruth Bader Ginsburg in public. She recently announced that her cancer had relapsed and that she would be undergoing treatment. This is the fifth time in 20 years that she has battled the disease.

“My most recent scan on July 7 indicated significant reduction of the liver lesions and no new disease. I am tolerating chemotherapy well and am encouraged by the success of my current treatment,” Ginsburg said in July. “I will continue bi-weekly chemotherapy to keep my cancer at bay, and am able to maintain an active daily routine.”

And on Sunday, those activities included attending a beautiful wedding ceremony in her signature black robe and embroidered collar, according to Inside Edition. The couple held the ceremony at a private residence.

Solish made sure to clarify on Twitter that everyone had tested negative for the novel coronavirus prior to the ceremony.

Who Are RBG’s Friends?

And who are these friends special enough to land Ruth Bader Ginsburg as their wedding officiant?

First, there’s Barb Solish. She’s the Acting National Director of Marketing and Communications at the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

On her “About Me” page, Solish writes, “My mother is one of my biggest inspirations. She broke barriers for women in science as a physicist at JPL/NASA (a true rocket scientist!) while being the best mom a daughter could ask for. Trailblazing women like her inspire me to do my best, every day.”

It’s no wonder she chose one of the most trailblazing women in history, RBG, to officiate her wedding.

As for Danny Kazin, he is an employee of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Hey, if you’re planning a wedding, maybe write a letter asking RBG to officiate. You never know what could happen in 2020!
