Keeping Those Pesky Uninvited Guests Away

If you are having an outdoor wedding, you may find yourself with uninvited guests. A lot of them. I’m talking, of course, about insect pests at your wedding and especially your reception.

If you sunburn easily, and your dress shows some (or a lot of) skin, you will probably apply sunscreen. Apply it at least 20 minutes before you add any insect repellent. Have insect repellent available for your guests if your wedding is at high mosquito times, such as dusk. You can put little travel size bottles in a decorated basket where the guests will see them, or on each table.

A little trick that guests won’t even know about, is taping fresh dryer sheets to the bottom of each chair. Put some under the tables as well. Out of sight, out of mind.

There are flowers and plants that naturally repel insects, such as citronella, lemon balm, lavender, marigolds, and peppermint. If none of those work with your bouquet, consider having them as part of the centerpieces, or made into sachets that can be tucked around the venue.
